SURGIFOAM Absorbable Gelatin Sponge 1977
The SURGIFOAM Absorbable Gelatin Sponge is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable hemostatic agent made from porcine gelatin. It is designed to control capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding during surgical procedures where conventional methods are ineffective. The sponge is fully absorbed by the body within 4 to 6 weeks, eliminating the need for removal.
SURGIFOAM is ideal for use in various surgical procedures, excluding ophthalmic surgeries, to achieve hemostasis when traditional methods are impractical. It provides a matrix for platelet adhesion and aggregation, promoting clot formation. The sponge can be used dry or saturated with sterile sodium chloride solution and may be used in conjunction with thrombin to enhance hemostatic effect. Its malleable nature allows it to conform to the bleeding surface, ensuring effective hemostasis.
